Fun seekers, imbibers will have to look elsewhere for their nocturnal activities following the closure of one of Blantyre’s entertainment hotspots Chez Ntemba.
Blantyre City closed the premises due to what it has described as non-compliance to renew its business license to operate in the city.
The city’s public relations manager Anthony Kasunda has acknowledged the development saying they have asked business operators to renew their licenses not more than once.
“I can confirm Chez Ntemba has been closed. The council on more than one occasion has reminded business owners to renew their licenses and warned them non-compliance will lead to closure of non-licensed premises,” Kasunda said.
But John Numbi club owner said the closure has been effected due to misunderstanding between the two entities.
He explained that they paid the renewal license fee but waited on the authorities to come and inspect the premises as stipulated in the procedures.
Numbi said they were surprised the Council official just came to lock up the place but will work with the council to have the place reopened.
Some of the club’s patrons have expressed disappointment with the council’s measure to close the place instead of resolving the issue amicably.
They point out the closure will not only affect the club but also people who ply their trade there like taxi drivers and professional sex workers.
