Malawian-American singer/songwriter Masauko Chipembere is billed to perform at Jacaranda Cultural Centre’s Sounds of Malawi on Thursday night.
Chipembere is a true gem whose unique mixture of Southern African traditional music with jazz, folk, funk, hip hop and reggae is not to be missed.
His primary instruments are the acoustic guitar, the voice and although his music spans many genres, the common denominator are strong songs and a great vocal range.
This will be the last show at Jacaranda Cultural Center before they close off the premises for a two-week mid year holiday from 3rd to 16th August 2019.
Recently he completed his first solo album 'Masauko' which was released on his Come to Life Record label.
The album was recorded in Cape Town, South Africa in May 2017 with some of Malawi’s top young musicians and officially put out on June 16th, 2019 which is the anniversary of the Soweto Uprising in 1976.
Masauko´s current collaborations include a band in Costa Rica comprising of musicians from all over Latin America, a true testament of the diversity of his musical palette.
With upcoming shows in Malawi, South Africa, Los Angeles and New York along with several production projects, Masauko continues to produce world-class music with an activist vision.
