Two people have been killed by a crocodile at Mpondasi Fishing dock along the Shire River in the area of group village headman Mwachande, Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi.
Mangochi police public relations officer Rodrick Maida confirmed the incident.
According to Maida on October 8 this year, a 13-year-old girl Gladys Jamali was attacked by a crocodile when she went swimming with her friends and she died on the spot.
The same crocodile also attacked a 22-year man Suman Linje of the same village on November 3, prompting people to track the animal and try to save the man, but unfortunately, he was already dead.
The matter was then reported to African Parks rangers for assistance.
“On the Afternoon of Tuesday this week the same crocodile attacked a herd of cattle in the same village that prompted people to run after it and saved the cow which was already dead and the dangerous animal escaped to the river,” said Maida.
Maida added that the animal ran into the water where it was trapped by the African Parks rangers and members of the community.
Mangochi Police station officers were alerted and visited the site to shoot reptile dead.
Police has therefore advised people that whenever they are going to the river for swimming among other things, they should be going in groups.
