Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has given Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah a two day ultimatum to resign or face fresh and reinvigorated demonstrations which will take place four times every week till she succumbs to the pressure.

HRDC has also demanded the immediate release of it's vice chairperson Gift Trapence and Rev McDonald Sembeleka who are being held at Maula prison.

The Coalition chairperson Timothy Mtambo made the demands at a press briefing held on Thursday in Lilongwe.

On Wednesday women backing the embattled MEC chairperson took to the streets of Blantyre to show their support for their fellow woman whom they say is being insulted because she is a woman.
