
Police in Blantyre police have arrested the Director of Wonder Care Nursery School, Mayamiko Nzeru, and a teacher, Michael Wilesi for criminal negligence that led to the death and injuries of children at the school.
On Tuesday, a two-year-old child died at the school and five others were injured after a classroom wall fell on them in Nancholi township in the city.
Survivors were taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital after sustaining serious injuries in the accident.
In an interview with Malawi News Agency (MANA) on Tuesday, Public Relations Officer for Blantyre Police Station, Peter Mchiza said the two will be taken to court soon to answer charges levelled against them.
Mchiza said, "The two made a decision to enroll pupils into the classroom that is a dilapidated state and not fit for a classroom. They are expected to appear before court to answer the charges of criminal negligence.
The deceased hailed from Mkwapatira village, Traditional Authority Mlumbe in Zomba.
