National Bank of Malawi (NBM) Plc has donated K4,750 million to Beit CURE International for its Night to Shine gala scheduled for 10th of February 2023.
The event is aimed at instilling hope into the people with disabilities, especially those aged between 14 years and above where they will be treated to a red carpet event as kings and queens.
Akosa Hiwa, NBM marketing and corporate affairs manager said: "We understand the challenges that people with disabilities encounter in the society, including extreme poverty, high unemployment rate, stigmatization, poor provision of education and health services.
"The efforts, therefore done by caregivers like Beit CURE Hospital in restoring the hope and confidence in these people through the surgical operations and other services on charitable basis cannot go unappreciated."
Beit Cure executive director, Elly Chemey said they are celebrating clocking 20 years in Malawi: "As a specialist hospital we see different children with different challenges, different backgrounds, so we want to honour them, to show them that we love them and that they are valuable.
"We had been doing 1,500 procedures on average but last year we did around 2,145 procedures. We are hoping to do 2,500 this year and with the support that you give us we will accomplish this feat."
Chemey said the numbers indicate that there are many children that need services: "The demand is huge and many children have not been reached."
He called for more support from the government and private sector emphasising the numbers show this is just 'a tip of the iceberg'
