Hannock to face new opponent, not bothered

Hannock Phiri, Malawian Boxer

Malawi boxing champion, Hannock Phiri will face a new opponent, Gift Bhollo at the ESPN Africa Boxing event set for June 30 in South Africa.

Initially, Phiri fondly called the 'Hardknocker' was supposed to exchange brawls with Xolisani Ndongeni, in the eight round Super Lightweight fight before he was replaced.

So far, the reason for the replacement is not clear, but the Malawian pugilist said he is fine with the changes.

"I was communicated about the changes. I am a boxer and I am always ready to face anyone. I was already preparing for the fight and nothing has changed. Right now am in the Gym and preparations are promising," he said.

Phiri, the WPBF champion, last fought in an international bout last year when he knocked out a Tanzanian colleague in Morogoro.

Now training at the Kamuzu College of Health Sciences (Kuhes) Sports Complex, the Blantyre-based fighter has a four Technical Knockout record to his name according to Boxrec.

Of course he has always argued that the records are not updated by Boxrec website.

His new opponent, Bhollo according to the Boxrec, has four Knockouts as well.

Phiri is the only Malawian at the event which will have Emmany Kalombo from DRC and Rayton Okwiri from Kenya as main fighters in the IBF International junior middleweight, 12 rounds.

Other supporting fights will involve Thulani Mbenge from South Africa and Idd Pialari from Tanzania in the welterweight, 10 rounds.

South Africa's Sikho Nqothole will exchange brawls with Tanzania's Selemani Bangaiza in a superfly eight rounds.

Jabulani Makhense from the host country will fight against Paul Kamanga from DRC in a welterweight, eight rounds.
