Flames defender returns home after losing passport

The Malawi national football team arrived in Durban, South Africa on Saturday evening ready for the Hollywoodbets 2022 Cosafa without defender Gomezgani Chirwa.

Chirwa and others left the country on Saturday morning but on his way lost his passport at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, forcing authorities to send him back.

According to Football Association of Malawi (FAM), the Nyasa Bullets defender is expected to join the team on Tuesday once he sorts out his passport issue.

Meanwhile, the team is being accommodated at Garden Court Southern Beach and had its first training session at Chartsworth Stadium on Sunday morning.

Polokwane City striker Khuda Myaba joined the team Saturday evening, while Mighty Mukuru Wanderers players Stanley Sanudi, Chiukepo Msowoya and Yamikani Chester arrived Sunday evening. 

Mozambique based midfielder John Banda and winger Peter Banda will join the team today.

Flames are in Group B where they will play Mauritius, Lesotho and eSwatini.
