Blue Eagles defender, Sankhani Mkandawire and Wakawaka Tigers goalkeeper, Dalitso Khungwa have earned themselves a call up into Flames camp, barely a week after the team regrouped.
Malawi national football team head coach, Mario Marinica, last week released a list of players to go into camp ahead of the Cosafa Cup next month in South Africa.
Before the team regrouped, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) indicated that some of the invited players like Gomezgani Chirwa, Chimwemwe Idana, and Precious Sambani from Nyasa Big Bullets could not make it due to injuries picked up at their club.
Silver Strikers’ Stain Davie has a knock, while Schumaker Kuwali was diagnosed with Malaria.
Eagles and Tigers have confirmed news of two joining the Flames camp.
“Congratulations to defender Sankhani Mkandawire whose defensive exploits for Blue Eagles FC this far has earned him national team call up along with Captain Schumacher Kuwali, Micium Mhone & Gaddie Chirwa,” Eagles announced.
Mkandawire returns to the Flames after some time off.
Earlier this year, he was among the players Bullets offloaded, before he found a new home at the Malawi Police side.
“Despite the poor run in form of the team in the 2022 TNM Super League First round, Dalitso Khungwa has been outstanding in goal for the team and he has been rewarded with a National Team call up. Dalitso Khungwa has joined the National Team in camp today,” Tigers also announced.
Within the week, Marinica also called youthful Patrick Mwaungulu from Bullets to join the team.
Malawi are in Group B of the Cosafa to face Lesotho, Mauritius, and Eswatini.
