Thom Mkorongo appointed Scorchers coach


Ascent Academy coach, Thom Mkolongo has been appointed to head the Malawi women's national football team ahead of the 2022 COSAFA Championship this month. 

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced that Mkorongo will be deputised by Andrew Chikhosi and Abbas Makawa as first and second assistant coaches, respectively.

He replaces McNebert Kazuwa who was in-charge of the team at the last year's COSAFA competition in South Africa. 

"Chisomo Nakoma has been maintained fitness coach with Phillip Nyasulu as goalkeeper trainer while Violet Bunya and Yamikani Magombo are team Manager and team doctor respectively.

"Mkorongo is expected to name his COSAFA Cup squad by the end of the week as the Scorchers are expected to start camp on Monday 15th August 2022 in Lilongwe," reads the statement from FAM.

The Scorchers at the previous assignment 

The Championship will be played between August 31 to September 11 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.  

Scorchers finished as runner up at the 2021 tournament.
