Nyasa Big Bullets Vice President, Fleetwood Haiya has made public his intent to contest against the current leadership of the Super League of Malawi under Tiya Somba.
Haiya said Malawi’s elite league deserves a leadership that thrives on serving the clubs.
In highlighting his manifesto on Tuesday, Haiya said his presidency bid is premised on looking out for the best interests of the clubs, setting up a professional and effective Sulom Secretariat.
He said he will plans on initiating and implementing Sulom strategic plan, realising the full potential of Malawi elite football through commercialisation and helping Super League clubs achieve financial independence.
"Super League clubs are financially and economically unstable to an extent that they can hardly operate as viable sporting and business entities."
Haiya said the league needs a person like him to take it to the next level where it will be lucrative.
He bemoaned lack of business minded ventures at the helm of Sulom pointing out he has the zeal to transform it.
"Addressing the above challenges requires a committed and courageous leadership. Leadership that strives on integrity, transparency, accountability, inclusivity and equity."
He also emphasized this is what he will do when he is elected as the Sulom president come February 25, 2023.
The nomination process started last Friday, and will run up to 17 February, 2023, five days before the elections.
Clubs have been urged to nominate figures who are criminal-record.free in the past seven years. The other criteria indicated the nominee must have been active in football for at least five years and should be aged above 24.
"Any nomination by an affiliate of Sulom, which is entitled to vote at Annual General meeting, shall be proposed by one affiliate and nomination shall be signed by the Chairperson and General Secretary/ CEO affiliate proposing," reads the statement from Sulom.
Karonga United has been the first club to come out openly and endorsed Haiya for the job. General Secretary for the Club, Ramsey Simwaka said they want to see changes at Sulom.
“We have opted to support Fleetwood Haiya because we have seen what he is doing on the ground."
Haiya is one of the directors of Nyasa Capital Finance, the official sponsors of the only regional Cups, Nyasa Capital Finance Cup in all three regions.
