Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has appointed Member of Parliament (MP) for Mangochi West Shadreck Namalomba to be its spokesperson.
Namalomba takes over from veteran politician Brown Mpinganjira.
A communication from the office of the party's administrative secretary, Francis Mphepo confirmed that Mpinganjira had been the relieved of his duties.
Mphepo wrote: “The party would like to thank Brown James Mpinganjira for serving the party skillfully and diligently, but stepped down due to competing priorities.”
Reacting to his appointment Namalomba said he has accepted the position with "humility.”
He explained this is part of reorganising and strengthening the party.
Mpinganjira has not commented on the decision by the party hierarchy by according to Namalomba, he has been assigned other duties.
There have been speculation for some time that Mpinganjira had been fired but he and the party came out to dispute the claims.
Recently they have been rumours connecting Mpinganjira to the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) however the former MP is yet to make his stand clear.
Namalomba is the Chairperson for the Parliamentary Public Appointments Committee (PAC).
He is a Chartered Accountant and served at the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) as Deputy Commissioner for Excise Tax.
