We wanted to stay in the party not the money-DPP top brass

Grezelder Jeffrey

Some Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) members who were fired from their positions in the party but won a court case with costs have made u-turn saying they do not need the money.

The four DPP vice president for the South, Kondwani Nankhumwa, secretary general, Grezelder Jeffrey and treasurer, Jappie Mhango and MP Yusuf Nthenda sought about K87 million kwacha in the case.

Nthenda acknowledged they have instructed their lawyers to make the withdrawal on the basis they are all DPP members.

Nthenda also said the other reason is they can not demand legal costs from their own party.

Lawyer for the four, Cassius Chidothe acknowledged receiving the instruction to withdraw an assessment of costs in the matter against the party.

Chidothe said they will be filling the paperwork soon.

Chidothe said, "Yes it's authentic [letter]. We will be filing withdrawal papers soon."
