Marinica's fast football too furious?

Ngwenya and Marinica

Malawi National football team, The Flames Coach Mario Marinica is taking heavy fire for his fast and furious style of play.

Marinica who came into the fold as technical director then propped up to coach said his style will change the football landscape.

He preached fast, thinking, acting fast but fast forward, he is yet to impress and get tangible results drawing skepticism from clubs and players.

The recent has been Scotland based defender Kieran Ngwenya who said Flames have two different football philosophies.

Ngwenya was called into camp in Saudi Arabia where the Flames were training in anticipation for the TotalEnergies AFCON qualifiers against Egypt in next month.

Marinica dropped Ngwenya saying he does not have him in his plans.

Responding Ngwenya explained: “We have two very different football philosophies, and coach did not feel there was enough time for us to understand each other."

He explained he was 100 percent ready to play.

Despite being dropped, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has said they see potential in Ngwenya.

The FA disputed the defender's claims that he was ready to play against Egypt.

The flames leave Monday, 20th March for Egypt where they will play the Mo Salah-led team on Friday.

They will return to Malawi to play Egypt again on the 28th of March 2023 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

Among other players who have not made the trip include defender Stanley Sanudi who was ruled out due to a yellow card suspension.

Chiukepo Msowoya and midfielder Gilbert Chirwa will also miss the match due to injuries.
