Voters in Thyolo where the presidential candidate Peter Mutharika comes from have come in to vote in the fresh elections.

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Presiding officer Francis Mphepo for polling station number two, the centre where Mutharika will cast his vote said voting started at 6 o'clock and the turn up is good with no problems encountered.

"We had a good number of registered voters, electorate coming in, checking certificate and able to vote," Mphepo said.

There have been worries over the novel pandemic COVID-19 bringing in voter apathy but Mphepp said: "all measures for COVID-19 are going well. Voters are observing distance and materials were provided for and being utilised."

Concerning APM voting at the centre Mphepo said this being his home he is welcome to vote saying all measures will be conducted.

On the part of vote counting the presiding officer said all equipment such as provisional lights and rooms are available for and monitors are here to ensure eligibility.

Centre number two has 863 registered voters with the district having area 7 polling centres.
